In conformity with Supreme Court judgments and
directions, UGC
guidelines, and State Government instructions, Shri Shivaji Mahavidyalaya Barshi
follows a
‘Zero-Tolerance Policy’ towards ragging. Any student of Shri Shivaji Mahavidyalaya
Barshi
accused and found guilty of ragging will be severely dealt with in accordance with
the
provisions of the law.
Ragging has ruined countless innocent lives and careers. It is defined as an act
that
violates or is perceived to violate an individual student’s dignity. Ragging is
totally
banned on the campus, and anyone found guilty of ragging or helping ragging is
liable to be
punished as it is a criminal offense. Shri Shivaji Mahavidyalaya Barshi ensures
strict
compliance with the prevention of ragging in all forms.
Vision
To build a ragging-free environment by instilling the principles of democratic
values,
tolerance, empathy, compassion, and sensitivity so that students become responsible
citizens.
Mission
To create an atmosphere of discipline by clearly conveying that no act of ragging
will be
tolerated within the college premises.
Objectives
To prohibit any conduct by any student or students, whether by words spoken or
written
or by an act, which has the effect of teasing, treating, or handling with
rudeness a
fresher or any other student.
To create awareness among students about the consequences of ragging.
To maintain constant vigilance to prevent ragging.
To address ragging issues immediately and take action as recommended by the
committee.
To convene Anti-Ragging Cell executive meetings thrice a year.
Anti-Ragging Policy
According to the UGC Regulation on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher
Institutions,
2009, ragging constitutes one or more of the following acts:
Any conduct by any student or students, whether by words spoken or written or by
an
act, which has the effect of teasing, treating, or handling with rudeness a
fresher or
any other student.
Indulging in rowdy or undisciplined activities by any student or students that
cause
annoyance, hardship, physical or psychological harm, or raise fear or
apprehension in
any fresher or any other student.
Asking any student to perform acts that cause shame, torment, or embarrassment,
adversely affecting the physique or psyche of the student.
Any act by a senior student that prevents, disrupts, or disturbs the academic
activities of any other student or a fresher.
Exploiting the services of a fresher or any other student for completing
academic
tasks assigned to individuals or groups.
Any act of financial extortion or forceful expenditure burden put on a fresher
or any
other student.
Any act of physical abuse, including sexual abuse, stripping, forcing obscene
acts,
gestures, or causing bodily harm or danger.
Any act or abuse by spoken words, emails, posts, or public insults that cause
discomfort to a fresher or any other student.
Any physical or mental abuse, including bullying or exclusion, targeted at
another
student based on color, race, religion, caste, ethnicity, gender, sexual
orientation,
appearance, nationality, regional origins, linguistic identity, or economic
background.
Punishment
Warning and submission of a written apology.
Suspension from attending classes and academic privileges.
Withholding or withdrawing scholarships and other benefits
Debarring from appearing in tests, examinations, or evaluations.
Withholding results.
Prohibition from representing the institution in events.
Suspension or expulsion from the hostel.
Cancellation of admission.
Rustication from the institution for one to four semesters.
Expulsion from the institution and barring from admission to other institutions
for a
specified period.
Powers and Functions of the Anti-Ragging
Cell
Ensure compliance with the directives of the Hon’ble Supreme Court to prevent
ragging.
Publicize policies and actions against ragging among students.
Investigate complaints and submit reports with recommendations for action to the
Anti-Ragging Committee.
Oversee the procedure of obtaining undertakings from students as required by the
UGC.
Conduct workshops and orientation sessions to raise awareness against ragging.
Provide contact information of designated persons to receive complaints or
distress
calls.
Offer counselling services and create awareness among students.
Take all necessary measures to prevent ragging on campus.
