Department Of English

The department of English was established in the year 1960. The founding teachers Mr. Phansalkar H.G. and Mr. Savalapurkar V.S. put in lot of efforts to make the department well-known in Barshi and in the immediate vicinity in a short time. Shri Shivaji Mahavidyalaya has been affiliated to Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Solapur University Solapur. The college has run UG and PG classes in English since 1972, which has proved beneficial for the students coming across from rural and economically weaker sections of the society. The department has set up English Literary Association in addition to holding quizzes and conducting guest lectures with the aim to equip students with language and communicative skills as well as to provide a platform for their creative talent. The department has always cared about developing students’ academic proficiency and personal qualities so that they succeed in various fields of their choice. The departmental library also lends books to UG and PG students who have been preparing for SET/NET and other competitive examinations. The department has a PhD research center and a language laboratory, which helps the students to develop their linguistic and communicative competence and thrive in the modern world. Prof. Dr. S.D. Pawar has been the head of the department since 2004.The department has carried out various curricular and extra-curricular activities under his expert guidance to help students acquire knowledge of language and literature, which has helped many more students of the department to be successful in the several walks of life.
